Musab, 26, Saudi Arabia: My Student Success Story in Adelaide
What Helped Me Decide to Come to Adelaide
Ever since I graduated from university, I had always thought about studying overseas. While I was working, I didn’t have a real motivation to travel. But after finishing my last job, I realized I had a great opportunity to go abroad. I wanted to improve my English to get a high score in IELTS.
The first step was choosing the country. I knew Australia was far away, but I also knew Australians were friendly. I searched on YouTube about studying in Australia and found a famous blogger from Saudi Arabia who mentioned KD International and several cities. Adelaide was highly recommended, and I decided to come here. Adelaide is not too big or too small, there are lots of people and places to visit, and importantly, the cost of living is lower compared to Sydney or Melbourne. Overall, it just seemed like the perfect choice.
My Original Inspiration to Study English
I started studying English seriously in high school at 14, but it was only once a week. It wasn’t enough to become fluent. In university, I continued learning English, but the courses were still very basic.
The real improvement came in my first job after university. I worked at a logistics company as a branch manager in HR and Procurement. Most of my team was international, and I had to communicate in English regularly. My manager, from India, could speak Arabic, but I found it easier to speak in English than in Arabic. This real-world experience motivated me to grow and improve my English skills.
What I Like About Adelaide
Adelaide exceeded my expectations! I have met amazing people, especially at Native English College. I enjoy all the activities, like language exchanges, which make it easier to practice English and meet new people.
In my first month, it was difficult to speak to others because my English wasn’t strong enough. But as I improved, I could socialize with classmates and participate in many activities, gaining a full experience of the city. Comparing this to my brother’s experience studying in the UK, I feel I have had a much richer experience here in Adelaide.
My Goals for the Future
I want to continue practicing and improving my English. I’ve been using apps and plan to take IELTS in Saudi Arabia. My long-term goal is to apply for a Master’s program at Adelaide University. Initially, I only planned to stay in Adelaide for 1 to 3 months, but I loved it so much that I wanted to stay longer.
I am particularly interested in Supply Chain Management, which aligns with my bachelor’s degree. Studying in an international environment will help me develop my skills and knowledge, making me a strong candidate for top positions in Saudi Arabia.
Highlights of My Experience So Far
Socially, I have enjoyed many unique experiences. I attended a “Cars and Coffee” event where sports car owners gather to showcase their cars while enjoying coffee – it was amazing!
I also participated in a Japanese party on campus, celebrating Eid. I wore traditional white attire to the mosque in the morning, and many people were curious about my culture and festival. It was a wonderful opportunity to share my traditions and connect with others.
Studying English in Adelaide has been a life-changing experience, not only academically but also socially. It has given me the confidence to meet new people, explore a new culture, and prepare for a bright future.
